ARCHIE & THE BUNKERS BAND

The roots of this swingband lie in Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands. End 2001, a number of former musicians of the famous Delft Student Big Band (DSBB) and some others founded a new band, in the same tradition and rythm. But this time, no Dixieland or or Glen Miller, but in between the jazz and rock&roll, known in the 40's and 50's as Jump Blues or Jive. A more raw form of swing than for example Bennie Goodman's music.

The repertoire consists of old jump tunes from Louis Jordan, Big Joe Turner, Fats Domino and Louis Prima, supplemented with songs from the North-American swing revival of the 90's: Brian Setzer, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Colin James. In recent years, songs with a similar sound from modern bands like Caro Emerald and Amie Winehouses were added. And of course some famous songs from the Blues Brothers are on the band's repertoire!

De "roots" van deze swingband liggen in Delft. Eind 2001 besloot een aantal oud-muzikanten van de Delftse Studenten Big Band, de Delftsche Studenten Dans Harmonie en de Wageningse Ceresband een nieuwe band te vormen in dezelfde tradities van enthousiasme en ritmegevoel. Echter geen Dixieland of Glenn Miller maar muziek die tussen jazz en rock&roll in zit. Eind jaren '40 en begin '50 bekend als "Jump Blues" of "Jive", een rauwere vorm van swing dan wat bijvoorbeeld Benny Goodman speelde.

Het repertoire wordt gevormd door oude jump-nummers van Louis Jordan, Big Joe Turner, Fats Domino en Louis Prima, aangevuld met songs uit de Noord-Amerikaanse swing-revival in de jaren '90: Brian Setzer, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy en Colin James. Natuurlijk staan ook een aantal nummers van de Blues Brothers op het repertoire.
